SXSW not only brings attendees movies and music, it also gives them a peek at what they can enjoy on their TV in the coming year. At the 2026 edition of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference and Festivals we learned that Margot’s Got Money Troubles.
The series, which will premier on Apple TV on April 26, 2026, stars Elle Fanning (Maleficent, 20th Century Women) as Margo. In this family-centric dramedy, Margo ends up with a lot more than just money problems. Is that a baby I hear crying?
The Story
Margo is a college student and an aspiring writer. Everything is going great. Then she becomes way too friendly with one of her professors. “Oh, my God!”, her mother responds to the news of Margo’s pregnancy. It brought up old wounds as her mom, played by Michelle Pfeiffer (The Fabulous Baker Boys, What Lies Beneath), once was a Hooters waitress who also became too friendly with someone.
That someone, played by Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation, The Great North), a professional wrestler and Margo’s absentee father, returns to meet his grandson. Things get complicated.
The issues that get raised by these events bring up a variety of public controversies such as abortion, living as an unwed mother, and just how acceptable it is to make your living on OnlyFans.com.
The Talent
The above may start to sound too serious, but the talent involved keeps it heart warming and will put a smile on your face. The talent, besides the actors mentioned above, also includes creator and screenwriter David E. Kelly. Kelly’s credits include Ally McBeal, L.A. Law, and Big Little Lies. Kelly also gets help on this series from his wife, Michelle Pfeiffer.
To be fair, it’s not all Kelly’s work. The series grew out of the 2024 novel of the same name by Rufi Thorpe. During the Q&A after the screening at Austin’s Paramount Theater, several of the cast and crew members mentioned how much they loved Thorpe’s novel. They remarked how they found it inspirational for their work on the series.
Kelly said, “As soon as I read it, I wanted to adapt it.”
C’Mon Kids
A warning: despite being available on your living room screen, you probably do not want to watch this series with your kids.
The sex may be a bit too explicit for little eyes. Also, I learned more about breast feeding while watching the beginning episodes of this series than I ever knew or wanted to.
